enjoys managing everything themselves, no one making the beds,
cleaning up, or serving them. Simplicity becomes a goal in itself.
“We’ve learned that packing small
give the space to live large”
There is no takeaway coffee, no room service, and no reception.
Instead, there are lakes to jump into, hiking trails to explore, and
SUP boards to inflate when the view invites it. Days flow between
rolling landscapes, cold mountain lakes, and quiet rest areas
where time seems to stand still.
The children draw, play car games, and spend some time on the
iPad during drives, but the journey itself is part of the holiday. For
Pia, the vacation begins the moment the car leaves the driveway.
If traffic gets heavy, they simply take a break, choose another
route, or spend an hour at a rest stop. With a HeroCamper, time
becomes negotiable rather than an enemy.
Her best advice is to plan less and remain open to letting the trip
shape itself. Spontaneity is not just an option, it is an advantage,
a mental reset, and a break from everyday calendar logistics.
The toilet situation does not worry her. She uses rest areas and
campsites, and the children care even less about it. The only
thing she no longer dreams of is a large caravan. What she once
thought would represent freedom now feels restrictive. She does
not want to maneuver a six-meter white giant that limits where
you can stop or how easily you can move. The HeroCamper has
made the dream smaller and freedom greater. For her, flexibility
matters more than square meters.
The next trip will again be Austria, perhaps Slovenia, not because
the family lacks imagination, but because they are not finished
yet. There are more lakes to see, more mountains to cross, and
more spontaneous decisions to make.
For Pia, camper life is not just transportation. It is a state of mind,
a form of holiday where calm, flexibility, and experiences are
prioritized over comfort and planning. It is summer without checklists, afternoons without deadlines, and freedom without filters.
A few good tips for others
When Pia is asked what families should consider, she answers
that you must enjoy doing things yourself and think practically.
The HeroCamper is flexible, but it requires sensible packing.
The HeroCamper may be small. But the freedom is enormous.
