A camper trip begins long before you turn the key. It starts
with choosing only what supports the experience you want.
With the right preparation, whether in a HeroCamper or
another lightweight camper, you can focus on the journey
instead of the logistics.
A Step Up from Nature
The Old School Way
The simplest option is a small
shovel and a hole in the ground.
It’s basic, but it does the job
when you’re far from campsites
and proper facilities. Dig a hole
about 15–20 cm deep so you
won’t be reminded of it later,
keep a good distance from water,
cover it properly when you’re
done, and carry on with your day.
A compact foldable camping toilet is for many the
“this is actually pretty clever” solution. It’s for those
moments when you don’t feel like squatting behind a
bush and hoping for the best, and would much rather
have something solid and predictable beneath you
while taking care of business.
You unfold it, place a liner or bag inside, and you’re
good to go. When you’re done, you tie it up
properly and pack the toilet away again. Most models
fold down easily, which makes them simple to store
without sacrificing half your storage space. Just
remember to remove the bag first, unless you enjoy
learning things the hard way.
It’s a straightforward solution
when you’re off-grid and there’s
no toilet in sight. It’s not exactly
glamorous, but you do get that
very real “one with nature”
feeling. And yes, sometimes all
the leaves are brown. Just make
sure it’s allowed where you are
and use a bit of common sense.
It doesn’t take up much
room and is easy to
bring along, especially
in a smaller camper. For
weekend trips or quick
stops, it gives you that
little upgrade in comfort
without turning your
adventure into a full
bathroom renovation.
It feels like home or almost like home
If you want your toilet visits to feel
almost like home, this is the upgrade.
A more solid and predictable toilet
setup makes a big difference on
longer trips or when you stay in the
same place for a few days.
A great example of this is the
Clesana X1 Portable Waterless Toilet
- a modern, waterless toilet that
doesn’t use water or chemicals and
seals waste securely for easy and
discreet disposal.
The clever design means you extend
it to full height when you need it,
and once you’re done the system
automatically seals everything in a
leak- and odor-proof bag.
Set it up inside a Bushwakka Extreme
Shower Ensuite Single next to your
camper and you suddenly have a
private space that works for both
toilet visits and showers. You can
zip the door closed and enjoy a bit
of privacy, even when you’re parked
close to others. It may not be your
bathroom at home, but on the road,
you will not complain.
